One of the first projects I took on under my newly formed UINSUTON LLC, this was a unique opportunity to assist in the development of an augmented reality experience for Porsche, featuring the 2021 Porsche Taycan 4S Cross Turismo Art Car designed by streetwear designer and influencer, Sean Wotherspoon.
A limited-feature at the famed Monterey Car Week 2022, visitors to Porsche's installation at the show could access the AR filter and drop a digital version of Wotherspoon's Art Car right in front of them. Users could scale the car up or shrink it down, adjust their perspective, and even choose from a few pre-defined variants of Wotherspoons iconic color block style.
Knowing from the start that this AR effect was going to be published to Instagram, data optimization was a key priority and the primary hurdle to clear.

I used Autodesk 3DS Max for all of the 3D model preparation, modeling, and decimation. Extra care had to be taken to bring the poly count as low as possible, but retain the integrity of the vehicle's form.

From there, I generated some basic texture maps using Adobe Substance for things like detail shading and ambient occlusion; I would use a simple color swatch-setup to control the various color blocked panels.

All data - models, textures, and code, must fit within a 4MB ceiling for publishing AR effects to Instagram.
In the end, the project was very well received and I can confidently say I set a new bar for accurate vehicle representation and material replication within such a small file footprint.

The client's happy, the users are happy, I'm happy.
